An update for the internationals friends

We have been in Kolkata more than one month, and we are happy to say we already got a nice house! Our first week here was just visiting apartments, trying to make understand sales Indian men what we were looking for, our requirements, because as they are always big families they don’t understand what a “little flat” means. But finally we did, and after cleaning it all around for one month it feels now like a little bit home. So it is ready to guest all of you! You know you are all welcome here! And I would love you to come.

We also found a nice place to work. It is a house that belongs to “Madre Teresa”. It is being working for 9 years now and there are children, girls and boys. There are different floors, the first one, where we work, they are all boys, most of them are 8/10 years old, except 3 that are 4 years old, and another one is 18. Most of them are physically or psychology handicaps, some are also blinds, deaf, hyperactive, so they need help to dress themselves, to go from one place to another, sometimes to eat…, so we are basically there to help them with these basic tasks and also to play with them, to teach them little things, and to make their time enjoyable.

At the moment, our schedule is the next: we work every day except Thursday (holidays for voluntaries) from 8.00 a.m. to 12 a.m. In a few days, we are also going in the afternoons from 15h to 17h. We live in the south and this place is in the north, so we catch 2 buses every day to get there. You cannot imagine how fun is to catch buses here! There are not signs for bus stops, so we are suppose to guess them, and sometimes they do not stop so you have to catch them in movement!

It is being more than 3 weeks now that we have been working here, and I can tell you I already love them a lot! They are incredible! We are trying to do our best and learn about each child, about how we should treat them, the best way to teach them new things and to gain their attention. This is just so good when they smile, when they are having fun, when they improve a little, when they remember your name…hopefully we are able through these months to make them a bit happier every day.

This is just the beginning but it feels really good in here.
Hope you are all doing great and to hear from all of you soon!!

I’m waiting for you in Calcutta!
